26 Promotions – Queen Creek, AZ – (May 28, 2019) – TJ Wyman battled hard over the Memorial Day weekend to put himself in the big show both nights of the John Morris Classic in Queen Creek, Arizona at Arizona Speedway.
The long weekend began on Saturday with the heat race where Wyman started from the seventh position. Difficult track conditions and an ill-handling car made it difficult on Wyman, but he was still able to finish eighth, setting up a decent opportunity to work his way into the feature via the B-Main.
Wyman was able to get the job done after an intense battle, transferring his way into the feature with a third-place finish.
“I started 21st and was up to probably 12th or so before I got in a caution with another driver,” said Wyman. “After the caution, I went to the back and was passing cars on the top. I got a big run off the top of (turn) four and tried to slide job a car but spun out while doing it."
The spin would end Wyman’s hopes at capturing a top-ten, credited with an 18th-place finish.
Night two would prove better for Wyman, however, as he would gain one position in heat race action, finishing eighth from the ninth starting spot. The heat race effort was not quite enough for the automatic transfer to the feature, forcing Wyman to race his way into the show once again, this time from the sixth starting position. Patience paid off with smart moves leading Wyman into the big show once again with a second-place finish in the B.
“I started 20th in the main and was up to tenth running the bottom,” described Wyman. “Unfortunately, the top line came in and I was still on the bottom. I fell back to 14th and that is where I would finish. The car was fast all weekend long though!”
Two solid nights give Wyman and the team plenty of momentum as they roll into Canyon Speedway Park in two weeks for more modified madness.
