26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (April 4, 2019) – Continuing his string of consistency with the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Sprint Car Series, Rick Shuman collected two more top ten finishes Friday and Saturday night at the Sunset Showdown held at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona.
“Friday started out well,” said Shuman. “The car was really fast in hot laps and we didn’t make any changes for the heat.”
The heat race went well for the driver of the Beadle Bug Patrol No. 25AZ with a fifth-place effort, which ultimately would line him up to start the feature from the 10th position. Battling a difficult racing surface, Shuman and his crew made some adjustments to try and march towards the front of the field in the feature.
“We tightened the car up considerably and the car was actually tight to start out the main,” continued Shuman. “We found the bottom and ended up coming home sixth.”
A good pill draw found Shuman leading the field to the green flag in his heat race on Saturday night, something that is almost always beneficial as passing can often be difficult early on at Canyon Speedway Park. This proved to be true as Shuman would show well with a second-place finish, placing him on the inside of the second row for the 25-lap main event for the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Sprint Cars.
“Joe, John and I knew the track would probably go away quick,” added Shuman. “Because of that, we tightened the car up a bunch. We again tried the bottom but could not get a hold of anything. We went to the top and just followed around for a ninth-place finish.”
Rick Shuman hopes to bring the consistency with him as he rolls into the Arizona Speedway for San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Sprint Car Series action on April 6th which will be racing along with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars.
