David Heileman Runs the Soup en route to NORA 360 Nationals Victory

26 Promotions – Braselton, GA – (March 28, 2019) – After missing the two prelim nights due to prior engagements, Davis Heileman decided to give the National Oval Racing Association 360 Nationals a try from the back of the D-Main on Tuesday night.

The driver out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin started off his 360 Nationals from the ninth starting position in the D-Main. Heileman charged his way through the field and up to third before falling back to claim the fourth and final transfer spot on the closing lap.

Starting at the tail on the field in the C-Main, Heileman raced his way up to fifth and just outside of the transfer spot with ten-laps remaining. A few laps later Heileman would make his move going three-wide in the corner and picking up three positions to secure the runner-up position and transferring into the B-Main.

Starting tenth, Heileman would only need to gain one position to lock himself into the feature event. Heileman avoided trouble as the field raced three and four-wide in front of him, moving up two positions to complete the soup run and lock into the 19th starting position for the 50-lap feature event.

It would be Tim Smith who would set the early pace, leading the first 15 laps before Coy Pennington would begin to challenge for the top spot. The two would touch as they exchanged sliders allowing Nicholas McGeathy to jump to the lead, but disaster would strike for Smith as Smith and Brian Powell would make contact leading to Smith’s night ending on the hook.

While all the focus was on the front of the field, Heileman had worked himself from deep in the field up to sixth with 30-laps remaining. Heileman continued his march towards the front, moving into the second and tracking down race-leader Pennington. With only eight laps to go, Pennington would get into the wall, giving Heileman the opening he needed to drive by and take the lead. Heileman would lead the final 8 trips around the track to complete the improbable run from the D-Main to the top of the podium!

“Just to get to the feature was pretty touch,” said Heileman. “Early on I didn’t really make any spots up and almost got into a wreck. There was one six or seven lap stretch where I went from about seventeenth to inside the top ten and that’s when I felt pretty confident.”

Coy Pennington and Nicholas McGeathy joined Heileman on the podium with Dylan Thomas and Brandon Steele completing the top-five.

The National Oval Racing Association returns to action tonight as the asphalt series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway, all the action will be carried live by Freaky Fast Broadcast!
