26 Promotions – Casa Grande, AZ – (February 6, 2019) – Colton Hardy opened 2019 with a trip to Victory Lane with the Power 600 Series Micro Sprints at Central Arizona Speedway after flipping off of turn three on the opening lap of the race.
“We were using this weekend as more of a test and tune to try new things and to get better when we go out of town and it really worked out,” explained Hardy. “We went seventh to second in our heat, but the car was way off from where I wanted it, so we went to work for the main knowing we were going to start sixth on a pretty hooked up track.”
After the initial start of the 20-lap feature was called back, Hardy went into turn three on the restart and hopped the right rear of a car that had slowed and pushed up the track causing Hardy to get upside down. After getting the car turned over, Hardy took a quick look over the car and determined he’d be able to continue.
“For some unexplained reason the track ended up giving me my starting spot back after getting upside down,” he said. “We got to fourth really quick and got to the lead within a couple of laps after that. Handling wise the car was decent but had tons of speed. We were able to stay out front and pick up the win.”
After inspecting the car further following the race, Hardy and his team found that the left front shock had been ripped off the axle following the incident on lap one.
“It feels good to pick up a win so early in the season, it wasn’t exactly how we wanted to do it, but some wins aren’t the prettiest,” he said. “I can’t thank everyone enough who helps out.”
Hardy will be in action on Saturday afternoon with the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Sprint Car Series at Canyon Speedway Park in the Dave Burkhart 22AZ machine.
