26 Promotions – Casa Grande, AZ – (July 18, 2018) – Dale Eliason Jr captured his fifth triumph of the season on Saturday at Central Arizona Speedway’s Summer Shootout.
As a hot, humid Arizona summer day gave way to dusk, the Iceman strapped into his black and gray 04j PMP Chassis for his heat race where he’d start on the inside of the second row.
“It has been a while since we’ve run the black car, so I didn’t really know what to expect,” explained Eliason Jr. “My dad put the same setup in the car that we won with before, so I felt confident we were going to be good. We got up to second within the first three laps of the heat, but the leader had already pulled away a bit, I tried to reel him in but ran out of laps.”
Eliason Jr’s third to second run in the heat would line him up third for the 20-lap feature.
“We started off a little rough on the initial start, but there was a caution before we completed the first lap,” he explained. “I was able to redeem myself on the restart, and we were battling for second for the first five laps.”
The Iceman claimed the position seven laps into the feature and set his sights on the leader.
“There was another restart, and the leader pulled away,” he said. “But, I kept my foot on the throttle the whole way around and gained ground. I was able to make the pass just past the half-way point and began to drive away from the pack.”
A late race caution with two laps to go would bunch the field up one more time. The Iceman nailed the restart and ran his fastest lap of the race as he came to the checkers to secure his fifth Power 600 Series victory in nine races.
Eliason Jr will have a comfortable lead in the Power 600 Series standings when action resumes on September 1st and 2nd at Central Arizona Speedway.
