Clay Sprau Claims First Career Victory

26 Promotions - Casa Grande, AZ - (May 15, 2018) – Clay Sprau returned to Central Arizona Speedway on Saturday night two weeks after a last-lap wreck left him a half of a lap from his first career win.

“Going into this weekend with the heartbreak of our last race fresh in our mind, we were hoping for a little redemption,” said Sprau. “We drew the pole for heat 3 and from the drop of the green the car was a rocket.”

Picking up the heat race win from the pole earned Sprau enough points to make the six-car feature invert, placing him out the outside of the front row for the 20-lap race.

“Prepping the car for the main, we knew the track would go away, so we made some changes to tighten it up,” he explained. “From the drop of the green, I thought we were in trouble. The track was way dryer than I thought it was going to be and I was struggling for grip.”

An early caution gave Sprau time to adjust his wing to dial in the car to the track conditions.

“After the restart, I was reeling in the leader until he made a mistake and I got underneath him to take the lead,” he said. “At about the halfway point the second-place car got underneath me, and I could see it was (Colton) Hardy. I held the lead and knew I had to protect the bottom better.”

Two late race cautions added what seemed like an eternity to the end of the race for Sprau.

“It felt like we were on lap 100 of a 20-lap race, when the white flag came out I told myself just to bring it home. When I crossed the finish line I couldn't believe it,” said Sprau. “I can't thank my family enough for all the hard work and support. I have to thank K Corp, The Race Shack, 26 Promotions, and my teammate Jarrett Martin for all the help and support.”

Sprau returns to action on Saturday night back at Central Arizona Speedway with the Power 600 Series.

Clay Sprau would like to thank K Corp, 26 Promotions, The Race Shack, and Paint by Steve for their continued support.
