26 Promotions – Tucson, AZ – (April 18, 2018) – Blake Rogers scored the first electronic fuel injection (EFI) win in the Lucas Oil Modified Series Saturday night at Tucson Speedway.
The SuperClean 75 presented by Hoosier Tire weekend started Friday night with practice at the three-eighths-mile oval.
“During Friday practice we remained a top ten car,” said Rogers. “The car was feeling great on old tires, so we decided, as a team, not to make any adjustments to the car heading into Saturday.”
The decision appeared to be the correct one as Rogers continued to show top speed in Saturday’s two practices before qualifying fifth, earning himself a spot in the Quick 6 Dash.
“The car was still feeling great, so we decided to put race tires on for the Dash,” he said. “They invert the six cars, so we started second and took the lead out of turn two and never looked back. Being the first to win with an EFI in our series is just amazing especially for our team, and I feel very confident we will get a main event win by the end of the season.”
Rogers focus quickly shifted to the 75-lap feature event, following the Quick 6 Dash, where he started fifth. He quickly moved into third before an incident in the early portions of the race left Rogers and his crew scrambling to make repairs.
“We were pushed up in the straightaway, and to avoid contact with the wall I had to back off,” Rogers explained. “That led to a hit from behind causing a left rear flat and minor suspension damage to the car causing us to have the pull the car off the track to get it repaired as fast as we could.”
The Blake Rogers Crew went to work to quickly and safely repair the suspension, but Rogers would re-enter the race ten-laps down to the lead lap cars.
“We didn’t have the best finish, finishing in 20th,” he said. “But overall I’m glad we were able to get the car back out there to finish the race. Even with an ill-handling car, we were still managing to pass cars which were placed in the top ten. The goal is to move forward, make adjustments and be prepared for a great race in Las Vegas.”
The Lucas Oil Modified Series returns on May 5th for the General Tire 75 presented by SuperClean at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Blake Rogers would like to thank Lucas Oil, FIRM Inc., MGM Design, Jacks Auto Parts, Mitchell’s Merchant Patrol, Pacesetter Home Centers, Arce Race Engines, Dune Company of Yuma, Big W Sales, and Super Clean for their continued support.
