26 Promotions – Yuma, AZ – (March 7, 2018) – Blake Rogers is set to kick off his fourth season with the Lucas Oil Modifieds this weekend at Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, AZ.
After a season that saw him finish in the top five in points, the 19-year-old out of Yuma, AZ believes his family-owned team has what it takes to compete for a championship in 2018.
“The 2017 season was amazing for us. We finished fourth in points, which is awesome for my family and me as we are a very low budget team, and this is such a competitive series,” said Rogers. “We totaled out our car in Madera and Garcia Racing, which is another team in the series, stepped up and loaned us their car to finish out the season, and I truly am thankful for what they did. I also have to thank Arce Engines who helped us out with the motor in the car.”
Rogers is still chasing his first Lucas Oil Modified win but earned three top fives’, including a runner-up finish at Havasu 95 Speedway, and eight top tens’ last year. This season Rogers moves into an STR Chassis with electronic fuel injection and believes that combination will lead him to victory lane in 2018.
“I am excited to get back in the car and show everyone what I can do,” he said. “I am excited to run an STR Chassis this year as they are the chassis of choice in this series and Steve at STR knows what these Modifieds want at each track. I am also excited to run EFI this year in the series. Being able to tune on it on the fly, record data, and not having to switch carburetors at the track when we are trying to find the right balance between power and trying not to burn off the tires will be some of the advantages for us. Being a low budget team is hard in this series because we only buy one set of tires, so we don’t have the ability to throw on multiple sets of new tires for practice to get the car perfect.”
Havasu 95 Speedway is a place where Rogers has an abundance of experience, winning three track championships in Bandoleros, a River Cup Championship and a championship in Legend cars.
“Havasu 95 Speedway is definitely my favorite track, and it shows,” said Rogers. “Last year we finished second in the opening race and fifth in the championship race in the Garcia Racing car. The track had a coat on top if of it for last year’s championship race, and the track was so fast compared to previous visits. The tire fall off was still noticeable with how abrasive the track surface is. This weekend we’ll focus on getting the car to rotate around the corner because you need the car to stay hooked around the bottom right below the yellow curb they have in the corners. If we can get the car to stay hooked on the bottom and control tire wear, I believe we have a shot at winning this weekend and how cool would it be to get our first win at Havasu 95 Speedway.”
Blake Rogers would like to thank Lucas Oil, FIRM Inc., MGM Design, Jacks Auto Parts, Mitchell’s Merchant Patrol, Pacesetter Home Centers, Arce Race Engines, Dune Company of Yuma, Big W Sales, and Super Clean for their support this season.
