26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (June 20th, 2017) – Clay Sprau recorded a top five in his first race on the third mile oval at Canyon Speedway Park Saturday night.

Sprau’s night kicked off with hot laps where he tried to get as comfortable as possible with the larger track before starting third in his Heat.

“I have never been on the big track and I was all over the place for the first couple laps of hot laps,” said Sprau. “For the first couple of laps of my Heat, I struggled to find my lines and fell back to fourth, but picked up speed throughout the rest of the race.”

Sprau’s fourth-place finish lined him up tenth for the Feature.

Sprau worked his way up to seventh by the halfway point of the race and was battling for sixth in the late stages of the race when his muffler began to come apart, eventually falling off completely. Sprau continued to battle, grabbing the sixth spot and moving up to fifth with about two laps to go.

Sprau was awarded fourth place after a car failed post-race tech.

“It ended up being a really good night for me, especially since I have never been on the big track,” said Sprau. “Congratulations to Dale Eliason Jr and Dale Eliason on their first win. And thank you to all the Power 600 Series sponsors for their support.”

Sprau now has two top five finishes and has finished in the top ten in his last four races to take a commanding lead in the Rookie of the Year standings.

Sprau’s next scheduled race is back on the big track at Canyon Speedway Park on July 29th for the Allscapes Back to School Special.

Clay Sprau would like to thank K Corp, Resolute Performance Contracting, Paint by Steve and The Race Shack for their continued support.
