26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (April 18th, 2017) – Clay Sprau has shown consistent improvement from race to race in the early part of the 2017 season, even when the Feature results don’t quite bear it out.

Night 1’s racing activity began with Heat races where Sprau started and finished 5th in Heat 1.

“I struggled to adjust my driving style back to wing car,” explained Sprau. “By the end of the Heat, I felt pretty good so we only made a small adjustment for the Main.”

Sprau started Friday night’s 20-lap Feature 13th. The fast-paced Feature went green to checker, Sprau handled a loose but fast race car as he made his way to an 11th place finish.

Night 2 of the Easter Eggstravaganza at Canyon Speedway Park would see Sprau start 3rd in Heat 3.

“I fell back to 4th but kept my head down,” said Sprau. “I was able to make the pass for 3rd coming to the white flag and held my position to the finish.”

Sprau was scheduled to line up 10th for the 25-lap Feature Saturday night, but the 8th place car didn’t make the call, allowing Sprau to move up to the outside of the 4th row. Sprau maintained the 8th position for the first half of the race.

“The car was really fast,” he explained. “I was keeping up with the veteran drivers in front. But to drive a car that was as hooked up as good as mine was is very physically demanding.”

Only four races into his career, Sprau began to tire in the closing laps falling back to 11th.

I was struggling to hit my marks and stay in the groove,” he said. “It took everything I had to bring the car to the checkered flag.”

Sprau wrapped up the weekend with two 11th place finishes, the highest finishes of any other rookies both nights.

“All in all it was a good weekend for me. My first double-header weekend and my first weekend not having to start in the back,” said Sprau.

Sprau’s next race is currently scheduled for May 20th back at Canyon Speedway Park, but make sure to follow the Streaker Racing Facebook account for any schedule changes.

Clay Sprau would like to thank his family, Streaker Racing, K Corp, Resolute Performance Contracting, Paint by Steve, The Race Shack and 26 Promotions for their continued support.
