(Image Credit: Ben Thrasher) – 26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (March 5th,2017) – Michael Colegrove and Cameron LaRose ended their Saturday nights in Victory Lane as the Power 600 Series – Precision Tile Micro Sprints got their 2017 season off to an exciting start.
Colegrove earned his first Power 600 Series win, and his first win since a sprint car injury left him sidelined up until late last season, from the 6th starting position. While Cameron LaRose, who started on the pole, picked up the second win of his young career.
Colegrove showed that he would be a top contender early in Heat race action. He took the lead from the 3rd starting position on the opening lap in turns 1 and 2 and would go on to lead all 8 laps to pick up the Heat win. Jarrett Martin picked up Heat race 2 from the 3rd starting spot as well. He also grabbed the lead on the opening lap and lead every lap of the Heat. AJ Miller would fight off a challenge from Dale Eliason Jr, as he would also lead all 8 laps from the pole position to win Heat 3.
With Heat race passing points determining the starting lineup of the Feature and a 6-car invert, Colegrove would find himself starting in the 6th position with Keefer, Eliason Jr, Chad Fife, Miller and Martin starting in front of him. From the start, Colegrove was running a little higher line than the leaders around the 1/5th-mile track and would quickly break into the top 5. The high line would pay dividends in the end as Colegrove would take over the lead from Eliason Jr on the high side as they drag raced down the backstretch after a restart with 8 to go. Colegrove would fend off one last challenge from Eliason Jr after the last restart with 7 to go. From there the top 3 would pull away from the field with Colegrove leading the rest of the way to the checkers. Eliason Jr and Martin would complete the podium with Chad Fife and Clint Haulot rounding out the top 5.
Restricted Heat race action would see rookie Scotty Milan start 5th and work his way through the field to take over the lead as the 6 car of Kaiden Clark made contact with a lap car on the backstretch on lap 5. Milan would pull away from the field but would make contact with the outside wall exiting turn 4 on the following lap. The large lead allowed Milan to recover without losing a position as he would go on to win the Restricted Heat race.
LaRose, who finished 5th in the Heat, would be the beneficiary of the invert and start on the pole for the Restricted Feature. LaRose would lead all 15 laps of the Feature, holding off challenges from reigning class champion Stephen Simpson III and heat race winner Scotty Milan throughout the race. All three cars were battling for the lead during the final laps, but it was LaRose who would cross the finish line first with Scotty Milan just edging out Stephen Simpson III as they crossed the line side by side.
The Power 600 Series – Precision Tile Micro Sprints are back in action Saturday night as the 600's remove the wings for the first time in 2017, the Restricted division will also be in action with IMCA Modified, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Modlites completing the card for the "CSP Season Opener" at Canyon Speedway Park. Pit gates open at 4, spectator gates open at 5 with racing action getting underway at 7. There is a mandatory driver's meeting at the Power 600 Series trailer directly following Canyon's driver meeting.
